It's official! Kit 'N Kaboodle Thrift!

May 1st is almost here! Yesterday was officially my last day to be open as a consignment store! It's official! Kit 'N Kaboodle Thrift is my newest endeavor.  I'm very excited to be helping a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Ironically, my original dream was to own a thrift store that would help an animal shelter. SCHS opened right next door to my store two years after I did. Though I try to help them as much as I can throughout the year, I don't feel I'm doing enough.

Transition to Thrift Shop

The last 6 years of owning/running a consignment shop have certainly been a challenge. Much work and effort goes into it and it's a balancing act to keep the consignors and consumers happy alike. The paperwork is enormous - monthly settlements take days, accounting for taxes takes weeks. Much of the work is done during off hours. I rarely take a sick day and haven't had a real vacation in 6 years.

When I bought the store 6 years ago I acquired 250 consignors. I currently have close to 750 consignors, and due to space limitations, stopped taking new consignors two years ago.

Fall is in the air - change to consignment policy

Fall is certainly in the air! I've been working my tail off trying to clear the racks of spring/summer inventory. My return rack is filling up (for those consignors who want their things back). My bags for donation to area thrift shops are filling up too, and will be tucked away until summer rolls around again (then donated). Shoppers are already looking for sweaters and stocking up on back to school clothes. It's an exciting time of year!  I still have lots of summer inventory and many prices have been slashed drastically.

Happy New Year & Early Valentines!

Happy New Year! I survived another January - when post holiday sales are typically at an all time low. The sun has been getting warmer and the days a little longer. It won't be long before Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow (or not). I still have a large inventory of winter clothing. I'm beginning to pull things that came in during the fall to make room for the new spring arrivals (woo hoot!). I tagged the last bag of the winter season yesterday!

There are many items left for the chilly and snowy weather - coats, boots, hats, scarves, sweaters, fleece.

Merry Christmas!

I made it to my 5 year anniversary on October 1st. It's so hard to believe that it's been that long already! Each year seems to go by faster than the previous.I have over 700 consignors and the racks are always stuffed and inventory changes daily. There's a large selection of winter clothing available. Right now Red tags are 1/2 off and Orange tags are 25% off.

The Ugly Christmas Sweaters Arrived a few weeks ago. The trend continues! While some people still prefer to create their own, we have up-cycled sweaters that have been laundered and decorated and ready to wear to your holiday party.
